CRJS is part of the growing Cristo Rey Network® of high schools across the country that integrate four years of rigorous college-preparatory academics with four years of professional work experience through the Corporate Work Study program (CWS).
This national educational model leverages the resources of the local business community to make private, college-preparatory education affordable and the impact on student achievement has been extraordinary. At Cristo Rey schools across the nation, students are going to college in record numbers in large part because of their early exposure to the corporate work environment. The program stands as an example of what can be achieved when educators join forces with business leaders.
Why Partner
Without intentional investments in people and communities of color and the organizations that work to address the removal of systemic barriers, real change will remain out of reach. Become a corporate partner today, and invest in the development of a diverse workforce.
Decrease Economic Disparities
Help close the wealth divide by strengthening the pathway to a college degree. Individuals with a four-year degree earn over $1M more over a lifetime than individuals with a two-year degree.
Remove Institutional Barriers
Provide students with early access to professional networks and environments typically underrepresented in their communities, equipping them with social and technical acumen to enter and excel at careers they may not have otherwise considered.
Advance Racial Equity
Be at the forefront of industry efforts to invest in education, uniquely complemented by career and technical training, to move society toward racial equity.
The Impact
Karen Casas '18
Cristo Rey Graduate
The Corporate Work Study program is a key part of a Cristo Rey education. Alumni from Cristo Rey schools across the nation have come full circle with their previous corporate partners. In 2014, Karen Casas '18 started her freshman year working at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP for her CWS job placement. Now, after graduating in three years from the University Honors College at Portland State University, she has landed her first full-time job as an administrative legal assistant for DWT.
"I'm hoping to go to law school so I feel like DWT is great place for me to learn about the different fields of law and get a better understanding of what I want to do in the future."
