Mission in Motion: A Day of Unity

Mission in Motion: A Day of Unity

Students creating warm blankets for asylum-seeking families.

On February 13, 2026, Cristo Rey Jesuit Seattle experienced a profound and uplifting day centered on learning, justice-focused action, and shared faith.

Learning at the Northwest African American Museum

Students began the day at the Northwest African American Museum, engaging with exhibits that highlight stories of culture, identity, and perseverance. The experience encouraged students to celebrate Black History Month by learning about local African-American leaders, while reflecting on the diverse cultural traditions in our own community.

Student-Led Immigration Justice Assembly

Back on campus, students participated in a powerful assembly on immigration justice, planned and led entirely by their classmates.

Marianna Rojas, CRJS Development & Marketing Manager said,

"Watching our students come together to put their values and Catholic social teaching into action to help others was inspiring, and we are all so proud of them."

Students lived out their faith through meaningful acts of service:

  • Creating warm blankets and welcoming cards for asylum-seeking families
  • Writing letters to legislators advocating for humane and just policies
  • Preparing “Know Your Rights” cards for families, neighbors, and our community

Their actions reflected themes from Seattle Archdiocese Archbishop Paul D. Etienne’s pastoral letter A Well-Ordered Society Rooted in Truth, Justice, and Peace, especially the call to protect human dignity and walk alongside those who face hardship.

Interfaith Fasting Service

The day concluded with an interfaith fasting service honoring:

  • Great Lent for Ethiopian Orthodox
  • Ramadan for Muslims
  • Lent for Catholics

The gathering reminded us that our traditions may differ, yet our shared commitment to compassion, faith in God, and justice brings us together. Our unity is strongest when we honor one another’s faith traditions with respect and love.

This day of learning, reflection, and community action highlighted the strength of our students and the heart of our mission. We move forward with gratitude for the young leaders among us and for a community that continues to stand together.
