A Season of Firsts, A Legacy in the Making

A Season of Firsts, A Legacy in the Making

The sound of bouncing basketballs fills the Rainier Community Center gym as Cristo Rey Jesuit Seattle’s first-ever basketball teams take the court. This inaugural season isn’t just about games—it’s the foundation of a new tradition, a testament to our students' resilience, and a milestone in our school’s history.

Leading the charge is a dedicated coaching staff. Boys' Head Coach Mo Lane—a Seattle Prep alum, lawyer, and former Princeton player—brings invaluable experience. Girls' Head Coach Alex Salonga, from our Corporate Work Study team, adds scouting and coaching expertise from Bethel, Alaska, and Loyola Maryland University. Assisting them is Jesuit Volunteer Kyle Hackett, who embodies the spirit of mentorship.

Our student-athletes are embracing the challenge. The boys’ CYO team includes first-time players and those with collegiate ambitions, learning teamwork and perseverance. Meanwhile, the girls’ team made history last weekend, playing their first game before an energetic crowd. Their fierce defense and first-ever CRJS Wolves women’s basketball bucket were moments to celebrate.

We are deeply grateful to Baden Sports for donating jerseys and equipment and to Mike Hall for securing two vans to transport our players. A huge thanks to Academic Dean Nolan Grady for getting our sports teams up and running, and to Coaches Mo, Alex and Kyle for leading with passion.

This is just the beginning.
Every dribble, every shot, every moment on the court is a step towards building something extraordinary—Cristo Rey Jesuit Seattle basketball is here to stay.
