Alaska Airlines Pilot Inspires Students

On December 4th, as the first semester of our students' Corporate Work Study jobs wrapped up, Cristo Rey Jesuit Seattle welcomed a special guest to campus: Captain Ron Limes of Alaska Airlines for our first “Spill the Tea” career talk. With an impressive career spanning over 25 years in aviation, Captain Limes shared his journey with 20 students and provided a glimpse into the exciting world of aviation.

Captain Limes’ visit is part of Cristo Rey’s ongoing efforts to connect students with leaders from industries beyond their Corporate Work Study Placements. Speaking to an eager audience, Captain Limes described his path to becoming Chief Pilot at Alaska Airlines, including being inspired by an elementary school teacher in New York City who encouraged him to follow his passion.

Students were particularly engaged during the Q&A session, asking thoughtful questions about the challenges of flying, the technology behind modern aircraft including the use of AI in flight systems, and the steps to becoming a pilot. Captain Limes answered each question with enthusiasm, offered practical advice and motivated the students to pursue their ambitions. He shared his fascinating experience in the U.S. Air Force, offered tips for handling stress, and emphasized the importance of a supportive family to help you when facing life’s challenges.

Students left inspired. Many are now imagining careers in aviation and beyond!
