Next Gen Group: What We Do

As a new school, community supporters play a huge role in the success of Cristo Rey Jesuit Seattle. At CRJS, one dedicated contingent is the Next Gen Group (NGG), whose members share a strong commitment to building and serving their community, advancing educational equity, and engaging with CRJS students and leaders.

These loyal volunteers each have their own reasons for giving back, but all come back to the heart of CRJS: our mission.

In our mission statement, CRJS emphasizes “empowering [students] to flourish as scholars and citizens.” This starts with creating a space students can be proud of, where they feel welcomed and supported. Empowering students can occur through different avenues. It can be welcoming families at the Open House, helping to assemble mailings, or spreading the news of CRJS in the community. It can also be through utilizing individual relationships to share the message and story of CRJS further. As part of yearly events, NGG volunteers see the direct impact of CRJS, through future students and families.

Over the summer, NGG members dedicated time and attention to creating welcoming spaces. With a 70-year-old campus, there is plenty of work to go around. Transforming spaces for high schoolers requires planning, installing materials, and time. Volunteers from the Next Gen Group worked hard to clean out classrooms, paint spaces, and assemble donated items like desks, chairs, and bookcases.

Throughout the year, members stay connected through monthly meetings and share ideas for engagement. They hear about updates at CRJS and support additional events. Then, specific projects are developed by individual committees in partnership with the CRJS advancement office. NGG committees include Special Events, Outreach and Fundraising, and Volunteering. Members enjoy a yearly calendar of events that forge relationships between NGG members, and support opportunities with CRJS students and families.

For a new organization, having a highly motivated and driven group of energetic supporters has been immensely impactful.

If you or someone you know would like to get involved, there is space on both the Outreach and Fundraising, and Special Events committees. Your participation would be a wonderful addition! Please reach out to Rebecca Nuffer, Associate Advancement Director, for more information.
