Open for Good News!

The CRJS team assembled and mailed acceptance packages for the first round of early applicants in mid-February. This marked a historic milestone as we continue to build the founding Class of 2028. Packages were blessed by CRJS staff before they were mailed. The blessing, led by Katie Seltzer, highlighted a personal story about a family she met during the feasibility study who prayed for a Cristo Rey school to open in Seattle. It was a powerful reminder of the impact of our mission.

The CRJS team loved getting to know each applicant and was excited to share the good news with so many well-qualified future students. 

Packages included a variety of materials to support families as they complete enrollment, and a CRJS pennant to start students’ spirit gear collection. An email accompanied the mailed package, with a personal video welcome from Dr. Nadia Guy, CRJS Principal. As part of the early applicants’ acceptance package, the outreach and enrollment team also hosted a New Student Party on campus with mini golf, a gaming truck, food truck, and more. This event was an opportunity for future students to celebrate with their new school community. The CRJS team had a blast celebrating with our early applicants and their families. 

Families have already responded to the acceptance packages with overwhelming gratitude and enthusiasm.

One family responded to Dr. Guy’s email almost immediately, “Thank you so much for accepting our application and we are really happy and looking forward to being part of your great school!” Another said, “I’m so excited to share this news with my daughter!” 

The founding class of 9th graders will have unique, one-of-a-kind opportunities like choosing the school mascot and determining what clubs and activities will be offered. So far, the accepted student body is 95% students of color and families live in over 26 different ZIP codes. 40% of students are from public schools and 60% from private schools, with over 10 different languages spoken at home. This founding class of 9th graders is sure to make Cristo Rey history. Join us as we welcome these trailblazers!
