Preparing for the First Day of School
On Saturday, June 8, CRJS enrolled students and their families were on campus for New Family Orientation. Dr. Nadia Guy, founding CRJS Principal, started the morning with a presentation outlining everything families need to know before the first day of the Montserrat Summer Bridge Program and the first day of school. Topics included pick-up and drop-off logistics, daily schedules, uniform details, attendance expectations, and tuition payments, among others. But above all, Dr. Guy was there to welcome our new families and students and to let them know how excited we are for the first day of Montserrat!
After finishing the main presentation, families rotated through different sessions in each classroom. They were given information about school communications and how to navigate family resources on our website, received transportation information, signed up for PowerSchool, reviewed the parent and student handbook, and learned about academic expectations. Students also had a chance to try on uniforms and parents could chat with school leaders after the planned programming ended.
One parent raved about orientation, “This was the most organized school event I’ve ever attended!” Several students even asked if school could start right away.
It was energizing to have everyone on campus at one time. We even had a few faculty members, who aren't scheduled to start until mid-July, volunteer their Saturday to help answer questions, guide families to each station, and spend some time getting to know their future students. Claire DeSelm, English teacher, Curtis Leighton, Spanish teacher and Student Life Director, and Samuel Carlson, Campus Minister and Religious Studies teacher, were eager to meet everyone and help make orientation a success.
The CRJS team is counting down the days until the Montserrat Summer Bridge Program begins on August 1. There is still time to join this incredible founding class. We are accepting 9th grade students for this fall! Call Flor Gonzalez 206-688-2108 or fill out this short form to get started and learn more.
