There's No Time Like the Present!
At the time, the school wasn’t yet approved, but Katie was articulate, smart, and spoke with such conviction about the program, I walked away with confidence a Cristo Rey high school would be coming to Seattle.
Nine months later, I heard about a posting for the founding advancement director. Although I was happy in my current job, I was moved in a way I couldn’t ignore. This was a rare opportunity to be part of leveling the playing field for all students – especially for those who are often left on the sidelines in the private education space – those in the lowest income quartile.
Fast forward and here I am, incredibly humbled to be part of the founding team.
The Cristo Rey financial model is unique. 50% of operational income is derived from the Corporate Work Study program and 10% from a nominal family contribution. The balance comes from donors. Generous people and organizations in our community ready to make a difference in the lives of students who otherwise would never have access to a private, Jesuit, college-prep education.
How can you help?
Right now, we are recruiting our first class of 100+ students to start school in the fall of 2024. Every single one of those 100+ students needs a sponsor - someone who cares deeply about making a life-changing education possible for them.
Sponsorship, at any level, provides a student with a Jesuit education, work experience, and access to a college degree, altering their life trajectory. Together, we can be the catalyst to help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. This is a big goal – but it is worthy. I hope you will join me and consider this personal invitation to help.
With gratitude,
